An Evening with JUPITER & OKWESS

Jupiter & Okwess are fronted by Jupiter Bokondji, who was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. While his lyrics often tackle the serious issues facing that nation, his music – which blends a range of Congolese, American and European influences — is undeniably dance-able and fun. Jupiter & Okwess are touring behind a new album called Na Kozonga, and sharing a live performance of songs from that album with the world & celebrating the summer solstice with fierce energy live from the Cedar stage!

Learn more about how to participate at our venue by attending our monthly Volunteer Orientation led by volunteer coordinator Jared Hemming! Beginning with our first show 30 years ago, all of the Cedar’s events have been staffed by volunteers in our program, which now includes more than 400 members. Volunteers earn credit to see future shows for free. Tasks include setting up the venue, selling tickets and concessions, and cleaning at the end of each performance. THEE SINSEERS with The Altons and Rudy De Anda

Thee Sinseers, the premier band in Southern California’s souldies scene, and special guest The Altons, a soul rock group with a twist of Latin inspired flavors and rhythms, bring old school LA groove back to the stage. Straight out of East LA and led by Latinx singer-songwriter Joseph Quiñones, Thee Sinseers feature a full rhythm and brass section and are part of a new generation of bands that are inspired by the interrelated lowrider and soul music scenes that began within the Chicano communities of Los Angeles in the 1950s.

Both groups make their Minneapolis “Chicano Soul” debuts on our legendary Cedar stage this June!
